SYF - 3rd April 2009
Well, we were awarded a silver.
As the saying goes " every cloud has its silver lining".
It came as an utter shock and total disappointment.I was speechless when the results were announced, and tears just started streaming down. Well, we, Nanyang Concert Band put in the very best and I'm sure we are worth more than that silver. In our hearts, we will always be that gold with honours band / platinum band. Although I can't deny that I was angry at first, but to think about it, what's a mere medal to judge the standards of our band. Music is something subjective.
Even as we have let out all our tears, cried our hearts out, we should now pull ourselves together and prove everyone what Nanyang Concert Band is made up of! The solid platinum standard band. We, the band, have succeeded. Playing our hearts out, filling our music with that undescribable emotions and passion. Hymn sounded great like never before. We even moved Ms Chong to tears. We know that we've done our best, and that's enough. Many people outside of alumni and school have commented that we were at least worth that gold band. Though the judges did not feel this way, we can be assured that we have succesfully conveyed those emotions and that passion through our music, and that as quoted " is the greatest achievement a musician can get ".
"We will walk out, with our heads up high." This silver will not be a defeat but rather a learning point.
Thank you alumni who came down and supported us. We really appreciate you. And thank you batchmates and the whole band. To batchmates, though this is our first and last SYF together with NYCB, we have definitely put in our best. And to Ms Chong, thank you for all the guidance, support and care you have showered us with. WE LOVE YOU!
NYCB, we've been through so much. The tears, the joy, the laughter. We have put in our best and we know it. We are the Platinum Band . Let's pick ourselves up and not be defeated.
Mighty players we all are :D
